The president of Metro¡¯s cash & carry business in China, Jean-Luc Tuzes, has said that the retailer will speed up its expansion pace. "We plan to open six to 10 stores per year over the next three to five years." Mr Tuzes says Metro has been working hard to lay a solid foundation for the big push. In order to guarantee quality service, Metro established its Shanghai training campus in November 2004. Most of the trainers in Shanghai are Chinese and the programme has been developed especially for the Chinese market. As for future expansion, Mr Tuzes says the business has special requirements for store locations, because the stores should cover an area of about 10,000 square metres (108,000 square feet), and provide around 300 free parking units.
